Nikki’s #stitchingsanta 2017 – Sent and Received

Whoops this was a bit later than intended as the time between Christmas and New Year just seemed to whoosh by and before you know it January is here!!

This year was my second time taking part in the #stitchingsanta wonderfully organised by Sheila @ Sewchet – I only took part in the sewing one as I don’t really do that much crochet/knitting, although I probably should do some more…

So this is a post talking about what I got in my #stitchingsanta parcel and what I sent out to my recipient. =)

My #stitchingsanta received

My stitchingsanta parcel actually arrived very early, probably in the first week of December so I had to be very patient and wait with it under the tree until Christmas day!

The card with my parcel told me that my stitchingsanta sender was Julia from Julia’s Creative Year and that she had put together my parcel based around one of my instagram photos, I was quite intrigued by this as I haven’t been on instagram for very long.

When I opened up my parcel it was all perfectly wrapped up in a very cute buddy box, and when I opened it up I found my first present which was a lovely notebook with an elephant on the front. I assume this was hand-drawn on by Julia which is very impressive and far better than anything I could attempt to draw!!

Underneath the notebook there was a lovely selection of gifts.

  • A large piece of soft canvas material with black elephants on it
  • Some wide grosgrain ribbon with elephants which almost look like a procession.
  • A fat-quarter of colourful elephants
  • A little crocheted (I assume) elephant pin cushion (which my boyfriend thinks is too cute for a pin cushion)
  • A wooden bird charm
  • A tin elephant case
  • and a few treats for myself (a candle, lipbalm and tea bags)

From these presents I had thought that the instagram post that had inspired Julia was one of my first photos where I had purchased some cute elephant cottons for making some zip pouches. While I was right on the theme, I found out when reading Julia’s post about her stitching santas that actually it was my post of a elephant ornament I purchased for our new flat that had inspired the parcel!

That has actually given me the idea to use the ‘canvas’ fabric to potentially make some cushion covers for our new sofa in the flat, I hope the colours would go. I haven’t quite decided what the other fabric might be used for, but I think a zip pouch might work well with it.

Some how I had also managed to miss that the elephant tin also contained a number of cute wooden elephant buttons. These go beautifully with the fat quarter fabric.

Thank you Julia for a lovely little crafting parcel =)

My stitchingsanta gifted

This year I was creating a parcel for Ali who blogs as thimberlina – from a little bit of blog stalking I discovered that she is a keen golfer, makes a number of different clothing items and has a job working in the emergency services (which I have to say a massive thank you to anyone who works in the emergency services as you do a wonderful job!)

I wanted to put together a parcel which was contained useful things, but also a few homemade bits which I hoped any crafter would be happy to receive.

As it was Christmas I made a lined zip pouch from this lovely snowflake fabric – festive without being too in your face, I use these for keeping all sorts of things in. I also included a homemade ornament with a pinecone ‘christmas tree’ which I made a number of for friends this year.

I made a set of co-ordinated items as well:

  • A brown lined project bag (similar to the stowe bag) made from a very soft brown fabric (previously a curtain…)

  • A lined zip notions bag from the same fabric – with an added leather strap which means it could be used as a purse, I have made a number of these and they are super useful for slipping inside a handbag.

  • I also tried my hand at a bit more leather working and made a snips case to house a pair of snips I’d bought for the parcel. I’m super pleased with how these turned out, and also with how good the snips are (I had to go back out and get some more for myself!)

I inlcuded a few notions as well; some buttons from my stash (some faux leather buttons and some self cover buttons), some christmas ribbon and some dressmakers paper.

The package was completed with some super snuggly fleece in navy blue which I hope will be useful either for a lining or to make a fleece/gilet to keep Ali warm either on the golf course or whilst at work. I also included some tea and a nice hot chocolate with marshmallows and some little sweets to enjoy whilst opening the parcel.

All packaged up and completed with a handmade gift-tag that I received in my advent calendar from Pippa. I hope that Ali thoroughly enjoyed receiving the parcel.

I hope everyone enjoyed their stitching santa and I am thoroughly looking forward to creating some more parcels next year! =)

I’m looking forward to seeing some elephant inspired goodies in the future. Those snips look very sharp and efficient – are they a particular brand?

I do hope i can make the cushion covers work, it feels like a good use for the fabric. 🙂
They are from fabricland, just think they are a generic brand but rather effective.

That looks like a perfect parcel for you – and cushion covers would be good!
I’m sure Ali will like her parcel too. Blog stalking before Christmas is becoming a tradition .

Yes I do hope there is enough fabric. I might only do the fronts with the elephant and the back in plain to get a bit extra out of it. 🙂
I quite enjoy it as I get to see a few more blogs that I hadn’t otherwise come across. Now I’ve slightly got to grips with my wordpress account and reader etc I find I’m reading posts more regularly which is lovely.

Love your received parcel, especially the elephant buttons and the pin cushion – I’m with your boyfriend there. You’ve made some lovely gifts for Ali, I’m sure she loves them.

Thanks! It was quite fun to do some leatherwork. I’m hoping to do a few more bits this year, maybe something a little more complex as well 🙂
