Since I spend so much of my year on the Pelican I thought that I should show you some of the things that go on onboard. Warning this is going to be a photo heavy post and does not describe a typical trip :p
When I joined this time the ship had just got back from the Tall Ships Races and had has quite a hard time of it so there was lots of maintenance work to be done.
here the crew are changing out the Jibs
A few days after joining we sailed to Dartmouth for Dartmouth Regatta
We spent a few days in Dartmouth which gave the crew a chance to wind down and have some time in the town/mooching around the marinas
This time off did give me a chance to catch up with my family on a day off I took a day trip to Totnes and savoured the greenery near my parents house, green is surprisingly hard to come by on the water
There were two fireworks displays during the regatta, we were VERY close to them both! (I will show more photos from this at a later date)
Having a knife to hand is very important when sailing and it is common for numerous people to have the same knives, so I branded two of the cadets knives one evening. I have yet to do this to my own ones!
We did a few day sails from Dartmouth and took some of the passengers out on the bowsprit. This is a photo of me and one of our lovely volunteers who was scared of climbing when he first started and now look at him right out at the end of the bowsprit 🙂
This is the view in the other direction
We have a net which hangs under our gangway in case someone falls off. Over time it has taken a bit of a beating (from the quayside not people) and needed mending
There is always maintenance needed in the rig. Here two volunteers were repositioning some kit
Boys and their toys! I’m not sure many more words are needed.
The seat on out RIB needed some repair work and they guys had great fun taking it apart
Said RIB seat cover in pieces! and the vintage sewing machine I attempted to use to sew it back together again, note the word attempted as it didn’t work so it was sewed back together by hand.
So many photos. I will show the rest of them in another post so as not to bombard you with too many :p
