January Sevens #87

Here is this weeks “Sunday” Sevens post, linking up to Natalie to give a snapshot view of how the last week has gone.

So this year has started off as a bit of a blur and we haven’t really had much time to be present on this blog, Nikki is still toiling away on her PhD and Pippa has been working at Sunsail (the weather hasn’t been very nice and so she is now suffering from a nasty cold!). So this weeks Monday sevens is more of a monthly round-up than a weekly one.

Over the Christmas period, Pippa managed to get some decent knitting time in and made quite a bit of headway on her blanket (much to Nikki’s annoyance) but progress has slowed down now that we are back to “real life”. One edge piece has been knit and it is just the RH edge panel that still needs to be started…

But finally, she has got round to putting the reinforcing in the back neckline of her Riddari cardigan so that it should not longer stretch out of shape along the neckline. Although next time something like this is knitted it def needs short rows to raise up the back of the neck

Part of the reason that the Seafoam blanket has been sidelined is that Pippa “accidentally” started another project: the Fringe and Friends Log Along… Hopefully, this will be a good way to use up some of the scraps of wool that we have from various inherited stashes as well as leftovers from various projects and badly thought out novice yarn purchases…

Going through our stash and pulling out all the beige, brown, green and blue wools produced quite a sizable pile of balls of wool… And after a conversation with one of our neighbours at the wine and cheese evening, we inherited a sizable addition to our wool stash, in exchange for some quilting cottons and beads we were never going to use. So much for making the stash smaller :p
(initial stash on L, additions to stash on R)

The final GMAS hat had its bobble sewn on and posted off, it is nice to get this ‘project’ finished, although I still have some of the wool left so I wouldn’t be surprised if a few more crop up.

At Christmas, Pippa received a new to her laptop which whilst being miles better than her old one (can actually survive on battery power and all the keys work!), was quite slow so we added some more RAM to it and it is now much more usable 🙂

As Nikki is spending most of her time working on her thesis when Pippa was back for the weekend she batch cooked enough food to feed a small army, and portioned it up into individual portions, so that Nikki doesn’t have to worry about cooking food for dinner. (ever again by the looks of this photo!)

But sometimes you just have those weeks where nothing seems to go to plan… We managed to blow up the dishwasher (big loud bang, a flash of light and then nothing…), sourced and installed a new one, had it leak all over the floor so Nikki had to spend hours crawling across the floor mopping it up instead of working and then re=install it again. And it’s not the easiest space to fit into to install!

To keep herself sane Nikki has done some sewing to try out a new pattern for a Latin dress that she is planning, making a top out of some of the most fluorescent material I think we have ever seen! Squeezing all the pieces out with about 5mm to spare 🙂

Since our parents fostered a sourdough starter on us Pippa has been doing lots of baking and we have currently stocked up the freezer quite nicely with sourdough loaves and rolls. The next big hurdle is going to be a decent sourdough pizza base and perfecting the taste of the breakfast fruit loaf…
That and eating it all before it all goes off!

Having introduced Nikki to the odd but wonderful Broccoli on Toast and having excess bread in the house that needs using up it is becoming a bit of a staple way to use up slightly less than peak heads of Broccoli.

Nikki has been trying out a new challenge doing some hand lettering which has been progressing fairly well. She’s tried a bit of faux calligraphy and normal calligraphy, and is quite enjoying using some new Tombow brush pens to do lettering.

Nikki’s 2018 bullet journal is still going strong, trying out a few new layouts with a bit of calligraphy and colour to brighten up the layout, without having to spend to much time on it!

I just love seeing the dancewear that you create, and this one looks to be another stunner! I recently gathered together all my yarn and came to the conclusion that most of it will have to be donated as I have now got a penchant for ‘luxury yarn. So kind of your friends to hand over their spare yarn to you, too. How wonderful to have all that food cooked for you – I dream of someone doing that for me…..

lol yes it is so nice to have someone cook food for you isn’t it. I always apreciate it more when someone else cooks for me…
I would love to do all my knitting in luxury yarns but tbh I cant really justify it for the lifestyle that the garments will have. I am notoriously hard on my clothes and accessories…
