Here is this weeks “Sunday” Sevens post, linking up to Natalie to give a snap shot view of how the last week has gone.
Well, this week has been a bit of a whirlwind in a, we didn’t really leave the house kind of way! Nikki is still slogging along with her thesis as the hand in deadline creeps up on us, and Pippa has actually been behind the sewing machine, pretty much for the first time since Christmas, sewing Nikki another Latin dress…
The new Latin dress is definitely in contention for weirdest pattern piece of the year having a very deep cowl back and a skirt! Thankfully they are not too much of a fabric hog and we could squeeze multiple out alongside one another.
We were sustained during the week with lots of sourdough Pizza. Pippa made three large pizzas which kept us fed for many days, which is just as well as these pizzas are a bit of a labour of love and take about 2days to make!
Sustenance was necessary because on Thursday we had a good post day of lots of fabric and rhinestones 🙂 – Unfortunately, that mint lace on the top of the pile was not the fabric that I ordered, but to their credit, Tia Knight had the correct fabric on my doorstep the next morning! And it is the first incorrect fabric I have had from them in Many orders…
This dress could end up having in the region of 4,780 rhinestones on it, and it won’t even be as heavily stoned as some of them…
Pippa’s scarf/shawl/shawlette thing has been coming on a treat between bouts of sewing and stoning, but something keeps trying to claim it as their own! She keeps having to pry it out of Zillys sticky claws…
Somehow the shawl was finished this week, as well as the Latin Dress… The ends are even woven in, I don’t think Pippa has been that good at finishing a project in its entirety, ever!
She even added another ball to her long-suffering Seafoam Blanket when she went to catch up with the ladies at a Crafty Coffee on Friday. The lengths we go to to take photographs of our finished items… Here are some of them trying to take a photo of a finished blanket in the middle of Trago Lounge without accidentally taking out some of the waiting staff! You can see the photo that was captured on the groups FB page.
Craftermath is a real thing, there are currently rhinestones and fabric everywhere from the dressmaking. But the worst culprit is pattern making, the number of times we have had to take the recycling bin out this week with paper offcuts in it is quite shocking. Here are the remnants of the t-shirt pattern that Pippa cut out (and the aloe plants that are waiting to be repotted).
And lastly, the finished dress in all its sparkly glory… Whilst it still needs some modifications and yet more stones we had always planned to keep working on it after this weekend. Although it needs to be perfect for the 23rd for the Nationals.

Wow! That dress is a stunner.
🙂 Thanks
Thanks 🙂 I’m really pleased with how it turned out considering it’s a completely new design to me.
The dress looks perfect from here! Good luck in the Nationals
Thanks 🙂 It just needs to have a bit more stoning done to improve it more, and potentially a second skirt under the first one.
Two days to make pizza? Blimey, it had better be good after that wait. We still haven’t tried the sourdough after your recommendation, as I quite like the idea of making my own rather than buying i and haven’t got around to it yet.. Are the rhinestones stuck on with a special glue? That’s a real labour of love, over 4,000 of them. Do the dresses get multiple use, or are they worn just once and then sold on?
Well sourdough is Pippa’s domain but I think most of that time is waiting around for it to rise etc. It was very tasty though!
So we use gemtac for our rhinestones, but there is also E6000 which is another popular one, but it takes a lot longer to dry. Some rhinestones come with a hotfix back though which means you can stick them on with a heat wand but the quality of the hot fix backing can be quite variable. I will try and do a post about rhinestones at some point… Some people definitely do have dresses for specific comps sometimes, but that’s usually people who are super amazing at dancing and are sponsored. I’ve got 3 comps to wear this for this year and then I’ll hopefully wear it next year too. I do have a number of dresses to choose from though…
