Outfit Along 2016

So here is my official declaration that I am participating in the Outfit  Along this year.

I am not using either of the suggested patterns as I want what I make to actually get some use and I don’t wear skirts that much and never wear knitted tops.

Knitting:

This would be were I fall down during the OAL I think, my knitting isn’t that quick, considering I thought about using the OAL last year to prompt me to finish this cardigan and I only just finished it at the weekend I think you will agree that I’m not the speediest at finishing knit garments.

So this year I am going to use this jumper which is a slight cheat as when I got the bag of wool from Age UK it had a knitted back in it but no pattern etc. So I am going to use this OAL to prompt me to make something from this.

The Raglan back is about the right size for me but I don’t think I need a sweater for the summer so am going to try and knit a waterfall style cardigan with raglan sleeves. Kind of like this pattern but with seamed sides.

I will be designing the pattern for this knit myself and one of the first things I need to do is work out the shaping of the piece I have initially…

Sewing:

This is the section I shouldn’t fall down on, but then again who knows…

Since I am cheating slightly in the knitting section I am challenging myself in the sewing stakes. From Me-Made-May I know that I need more some Me-Made bottoms so I am planning on sewing trousers for the OAL…

I am thinking of using this Burda pattern, but modifying it slightly to make it a little sleeker, removing the patch pockets and just having standard angled pockets and then using a self fabric covered elastic for the waist band and bottom of the legs.

I think if I make these from a navy viscose they will be very versatile and in constant rotation like my black Primark ones are currently.

On top of this I will need to make a simple top to make this a complete outfit, hopefully like this top, but without the bead embellishment.

But if this month gets away from me, like it most probably will do I have a top I finished at the weekend which I can use, My trusty Butterick B5997 which I modified to have a tie neck instead of a collar and got rid of the deep V-neck. I think you might get the gist that I’m not very good at following patterns as they are written.

Tie neck butterick B5997

I would have to create the pattern for the Top I want to make so that might be a little too much work, but fingers crossed. If I don’t make it this month I will make it soon.

Now I’m off to start counting the shaping on the back piece for my knitting, design a pattern and knit like crazy. I do like to set myself unrealistic goals don’t I :p

Is anyone else participating this year? Or watching from the sidelines?
