Sunday Sevens #20

Here is this weeks Sunday Sevens from Natalie at Thread and Bobbins, This is the second week that I have been on the Pelican and things are still running at a ridiculous pace! There is soo much that needs to be sorted and not enough hours in the days!

Well this week has been an entirely frustrating one.. We sailed from Weymouth to Hythe last Sunday, arriving early evening on Sunday. We were supposed to spend the week there to get a “simple paint job” done, which was supposed to have been finish 3 weeks ago (last time they were in dry dock) but the yard managed to mess it up and we needed to go back!

We managed to get to Weds with out having a single drop of paint applied to the hull! and decided that since we had a friends and family daysail booked for the Sat we were going to leave and come back to Weymouth with out the paint job being finished (or even started!)

At least we had some nice photograph opportunities.

We manage to get a bit of rigging work done, whilst changing out one of the sheets we had this massive tangle to contend with. This was once a nice coil of rope!

Just before we left Hythe I was in the RIB waiting to help the ship round the corner and managed to snap this picture of the vessel from underneath the bowsprit.

On the Voyage back we were quite short handed so were doing 1 hour stints on the helm, I had the bit going through the Needles out of the Solent which was a bit more work than other stints as the wind/tide through there were acting on the vessel in unpredictable ways. This wasn’t too much of an inconvenience but I couldn’t have done much more than that as it was freezing in the wind!

I managed to snap a photo of the ship going through the Needles and felt it looked very traditional so gave it a “old school feel”

Back home in Weymouth we get some lovely weather, some of the time!

Nice weather means we can get some of the rigging work done, this was taking down some temporary additions to the mizzen mast. You can see our Chief Officer and one of our Volunteers up the mast!

We thought that our days sail on Saturday might be cancelled as there was a storm warning in place but it didn’t appear. This was the view that greeted us in the morning, not a breath of wind to be seen… It did change during the day and a few hours after this photo was taken we had a hail storm!
The storm seems to have only been delayed rather than disappeared as it has been howling all morning today, and working in the rig was a bit interesting!
