Freshly sewn. #miymarch16 So yesterday's top was my most recently sewn item. But this top I'm wearing with it today was the item I finished before that one. #103 from #burda 02/2016. I'm loving the move away from tight tees that I've been sewing recently @thatwendyward @dressmakerssocial

#miymarch16 day 3. Dresses and frocks, well I don't often wear dresses as everyday wear but for dancing they come out a lot. Recently I finished masking these two matching dresses for my sister and her #latindance partner. Making the pattern for these was a bit of a challenge to say the least. @thatwendyward @dressmakerssocial

My favorite #fabricfinds for #miymarch16. Purchased last year from stones fabrics in Totnes. So far I have used the polka dot one to make a #butterick B5997 top. I'm waiting to refine the pattern before I cut into that flowery gorgeousness. @thatwendyward @dressmakerssocial @dittofabrics #miymarch16 #dittoprizedayfriday

#miymarch16 day6 #embelish. Honestly when I first saw embellish I thought it was going to be a tricky one as most of my clothes are plain. But no! I feel like all the sewing I do these days is mend

I feel like all the sewing I do these days is mending so it was lovely to be able to actually make something new. This is my wearable muslin for the Phen wrap trousers from @ready_to_sew. I am planning to make these in some lovely petrol linen from @stonefabrics to wear to a wedding next month, so I need to get my skates on. (There are also a number of other garments on my list for that wedding...)
I made a straight size 46 I think (except for picket placement and adding cuffs to the bottom to extend the length, and am wearing it with the centre front tucked down by an inch. I think in my next pair I will extend the side wraps so that they will actually cross over, adjust the way the ties are attached, reduce the CF height and possibly change the front crotch curve ever so slightly and extending the length if I have enough fabric, if not it's cuffs again...)

Dad's boiler suit in for repair where I seam had split at the pocket.
Purple lambs wool jumper that I bought from a charity shop with a tiny hole in the front (worn in the outfit photos)
Mended a hole at the seam of my @goldfinchtextilestudio dungarees, where I sewed too close to the edge of the fabric when making them.
I finally got round to reattaching the binding to my strappy top made from viscose twill that has been sitting in the mending pile for years!
Getting ready for the first sailing of the year produced some mending for A. His Helly Hansen thermals needed one of the seams re stitching
And his Helly Hansen warm work jacket needed the other under arm seam re stitching, always very thankful for the invisible zipper sewn into the lining on that jacket that makes repairs like this so much easier...

First sewing done in the new house, and it's mendi

First sewing done in the new house, and it's mending... 🤨

Eventually I should have a really wonderful sewing area, but it is currently a staging area for all the remaining painting/DIY gear still needed for us to finally paint the stairwell and hallway. So currently using my machines on the dining table... I also only have the heavy duty machine and the overlocker, my main machine is yet to be moved. That should happen this weekend, along with my sewing table.

I did try to get some actual garment sewing done but it has been a comedy of "errors". I managed to print and cut out the pattern ok after finally getting new ink for the printer, but I have decided I want to sew a wearable muslin before cutting into the lovely sorona linen from @stonefabrics. Turns out I don't have any suitable fabric to use for this.

So I decided to print some more patterns since I have a few things I need to sew, I think I ran out of paper three times (having to nip round to my parents house to "borrow" some each time).

I then decided to finally get round to sewing up the Seamwork aims blouse that I cut out at least a year ago if not longer... Turns out I don't have any interfacing here yet 🤣🤣

So mending it was, sneaking in just in time for #mendMarch. All in all I mended a strappy top from viscose twill that had pulled out of the binding, rehemmed a RTW top, sewed up a split seam on Dad's PJ top, mended a tear and reinforced the back hem of Dad's trousers, resewed down the waist elastic in a pair of RTW pants. Then A returned from nearly 2 weeks away working with some more mending so his Helly Hansen jacket went under the sewing machine again to repair the other underarm this time and I sewed up a bust seam on his thermals.

All in all a productive few days. Although I look forward to being able to sew something new for myself soon...

Today is a batch cooking in the pressure cooker kind of day. We get the keys to our house tomorrow so will be spending the foreseeable future filing bits and painting the whole house, so I'm batch cooking soup and some dinners so that I don't have to think about it too much for the rest of the week.

Leek and potato soup (1L)
Broccoli and blue cheese soup (2L)
Char Sui pork
Butter beans for stew (with sausages) 😋
Pork with orange and ginger served with brown rice (tonight's dinner)

I will probably make another batch of soup and the instant pot will get an outing during the week to cook the veggie rice to go with the Char Sui and possibly pasta or rice depending on what we fancy.

Looking forward to the chaos starting tomorrow...

In a shocking turn of events I finally blogged again, I quick round-up of the projects I have managed to complete in the last 20 months since I last blogged!!

Hopefully I will actually be able to do some more sewing this year, and more importantly be able to document some of it a bit better than I have been lately...

Lots of socks going on here. It's probably about time for me to knit another pair...

Also some mending and debobbling going on which is pretty indicative of 2023 for me. And I can see lots more of that in 2024 as well...

There are some very specific to 2023 things, saying goodbye to Cowes and hello to Totnes is there. The last 12 months have been full of change as Arthur and I have slowly left Wessex behind and moved to Devon. Life down here will still be full of fixing boats just not so many Sunsail boats.

The greenhouse will definitely feature in 2024's posting and I can confirm that it is already far fuller than it was in that photo, so plenty more to see this year. Although that will mostly be on my other account.

2024 will hopefully see me back behind a sewing machine again for more than the odd mend of something. As of next month I should hopefully have my own sewing/crafting space again and hopefully that will kick start my sew-jo again 🤞🏻
It will help that I have a couple of things lined up in 2024 that will require fantastic outfits...

We were up and organised enough this morning to have our coffee outside greeting the (rather uninspiring) sunrise this morning, celebrating the return of the sun after the longest night of the year.

We are setting up for some solstice celebrations this evening, involving the fire pit and pizza oven. 🔥🔥

Time to extend sock number two for my Mum. I knit

Time to extend sock number two for my Mum.
I knit these socks over a year ago and they haven't really been worn since Mum found them too tight on her toes, so in the spirit of #socktober I got it the needles and added 10 rounds to the foot length and apparently it is perfect now. I just need to do the other one 😂...

So it's October! Where on earth has this summer go

So it's October! Where on earth has this summer gone to?

Well it seems that this year October is my September and has that whole "new year" feeling that September often gives. So I'm leaning into that feeling and starting to plan all the new projects, some very big ones to be revealed later on 😬 but for now it's embracing #Soctober so I'm planning some love for my feet.

Planning as follows:

1: Add extra reinforcing to the heels of these socks (third time 🤣) that were bought for my Mum when she lived in Germany as a school child...

2: Adding extra heel and ball of the foot reinforcement to this pair of "thermal socks" (second lot of reinforcing)

3: Knit myself some new everyday socks from this @rico_design #SuperbaVintage yarn which is I think Turquoise Mix with @westyorkshirespinners #Signature4Ply blueberry bonbon for toes and possibly heels

4: Knit myself some "thick socks" with this #Opal6Ply yarn

That should keep me busy for a little while 😉

Sightly surreal leaving Cowes today for the last time on a Sunsail boat for the foreseeable future...

I'm sure we will be back soon, but currently don't know when that'll be.

As this season draws to a close, this chapter closes too. Next season will bring us new challenges but also new adventures in a new stomping ground.

Had a lovely day today walking round Totnes with @knightcrafts, and @oceanographil for part of the day.

Didn't buy too much stuff but did get pasties for lunch, got some more sea weed mix from @earthfoodlove, and finally bought myself some fabric that I have been eyeing up from @stonefabrics for ages. Nikki bought fabric for a maxi dress from there and the service and advice we got was second to none 😁.

We also had coffee at the @bullinn_totnes which is one of those places I have been meaning to go to for ages. Another one is Totnes castle, and that is still on the to visit list as we decided it was too late in the day by the time we went past.

We also picked up burgers from @allercombefarmer for a BBQ this weekend and cheese from @countrycheeses to go with them. 😁

Hopefully the weather keeps nice for the weekend 🤞🏻
