All things Olympic

Well it’s been far too long since I posted on here
unfortunately. But I’ve been extremely busy at work and Pippa is still off
gallivanting in the coastal waters of Europe. My ridiculous commute means I get
up at 5.30am to get to work for 9am, and then leaving work at 5.30pm gets me
home for 8pm. So once I’m home, there’s hardly any time to do anything before
going to bed to get enough sleep for the next day. But I think now I’ve settled
into my routine, I can start writing blog posts on the train.
The Olympics started on Friday, they seem to have come
around pretty quickly. But wow what an opening ceremony! It was cheerful yet
touching and lots of subtler references and amazing use of props!
I have to say though that possibly my favourite part of it was the use of the
LED light pads in each seat, it created such an extra dimension to the lighting
in the arena. Oh and the forging of the Olympic rings, which was really well done.
I have to say I’m pretty impressed with the transport across
London as well. I had to pass through London on my way to my parents on Friday
(opening night) and am currently typing this on my journey back home having
just come through London. There are lots of staff to give information, lots of
signs and other than people not seeming to realise that they shouldn’t try
holding the doors open the journeys were fine. At Stratford especially (Olympic
Park) they had loads of extra staff and announcements. Which reminds me, I
still haven’t been to the massive new shopping centre that is there, will
definitely have to go sometime.
I have to say I’m rather jealous of the people who are
involved in the Olympics or who are going to see them, it would be really cool
to get to go and see all the athletes in action. Even when I went to see the
Olympic trials that was really exciting, so getting to see the Olympics
themselves would have been amazing.
At the moment I’m just trying to follow all of the sport
online, but it’s quite difficult as there is so much going on each day! I hope
that we do quite well this time, but unfortunately I’m not sure that people
will do as well as the nation ‘expects’ them to do. But it will hopefully
improve some of the sport in this country and leave a legacy behind.
I really want to make sure I can watch the gymnastics and
the diving, although I’ll be trying to follow all of the sports really. Oh and
the sailing, which unfortunately isn’t shown of the tv much because it’s not
much of a spectator sport, but it is awesome nonetheless.
Are other people following the Olympics? What sports are you
trying to make sure you watch?
